During the RNC there were a few statements that were less than true, about Sen. Obama and Sarah Palin’s record.  Lets take a look at them one by one, all my info come from factcheck.org.

First the bridge to nowhere.  She said at the RNC that she said, “thanks but no thanks.” Well during her bid for Governor in 06 she was for the bridge, even saying.

Palin, 2006: “People across the nation struggle with the idea of building a bridge because they’ve been under these misperceptions about the bridge and the purpose,” said Palin, who described the link as the Ketchikan area’s potential for expansion and growth. … Palin said Alaska’s congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge as part of a package deal and that she “would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge.”

When the bridge project was axed the money for the bridge wasn’t returned.  This is not the only time that Palin has asked for earmarks from congress.  As mayor of Wasilla, she collected $27 million from congress.  To help obtain these earmarks she hired Steven Silver, former chief of staff for indicted Sen. Ted Stevens.  Not only that but according to the Los Angeles Times, she defended the earmark process. 

“The federal budget, in its various manifestations, is incredibly important to us, and congressional earmarks are one aspect of this relationship,” Palin said earlier this year. 

This raised the dander of one Sen. McCain, opposing $450,000 set aside for an agricultural processing facility in Wasilla that was proposed during Palin’s term as Mayor.

As Governor she requested $160.5 million in earmarks in 08 and almost $190 million for the coming year, 2009.

Tomorrow we’ll discuss another lie of Palin’s.  Obama’s record on sponsoring legislation in both the Illinois State Senate and in the U.S. Senate. 

Palin said, ”But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or even a reform, not even in the state Senate.”
